Mary's Call to Resistance

Mary is held up as the epitome of surrender. She fully surrenders her body, heart, and whole life to the will and plan of God. We hear it in her response to the angel Gabriel, “I am the Lord’s servant, may it be to me as you have said.”  What strikes me as I read her response this year is that with this act of surrender, Mary ushers in a resistance movement.

The Season Change

In Southern California we’re still running our AC and snacking on ice cream in late October. But now it’s getting to be the time of year when the season finally changes. The mornings are dark and cool. The Santa Ana winds die down.  The dates on the calendar and our own sadness creep up to remind us that children die and colonists take over.  The crisp mornings are a smack of reality. We can’t live in summer forever.
